I've worked on the web for 15 years, typically for start-ups, agencies and new business units where everyone wears a lot of hats. Nearly every role has been a hybrid of UX/visual design, content strategy and marketing. I love clean, artful, scalable information design that makes it easy for people to do what they want to do. (And what you want them to do.)
